I imported this BJ40 from BC Canada in March 2006. "Sweetpea" was in fair shape and running but new brakes, electical upgrades and body work were needed. Fuel and oil leaks which are common with diesels have been fixed or significantly reduced, although there is the occasional drip on my garage floor. Mechanically, the motor runs strong (nearly 350,000 KM), transmission shifts good and the new clutch keeps me moving along at a top speed of 55-60 MPH. This is a vehicle that does not move too quickly without a turbo. I have no plans to install a turbo, change rear-end gearing or put on larger tires as most of the driving is to and from town (or coffee shop). Weekends I'll drive it to a river or lake for some fly fishing. Most of the off-asphalt driving I do is on forest trails and country back roads. This has been a great vehicle to own and drive. If you can find a late model BJ40 in good mechanical or repairable condition, it's worth the effort to restore.
